IMPORTANT SHAKER DISCOVERY
- Orren Haskins Sewing Desk – inscribed in pencil on the underside of both the top center and bottom center drawers on the gallery: “Cornelia French May 17, 1874 OH”
- Orren Haskins Sewing Desk – inscribed in pencil on the underside of both the top center and bottom center drawers on the gallery: “Adoline Cantral May 12, 1874 OH”
Both sewing desks were built at Mt. Lebanon by Brother Orren Haskins (1815-1892). The desk on the left was made for Sister Cornelia French (1840-1917) on May 17, 1874 and currently resides in the Shaker Museum at Hancock Shaker Village, Pittsfield, MA. The desk on the right was made for Sister Adoline Cantral on May 12, 1874 and will be featured in our upcoming Shaker auction of Summer 2019.
