Skein of blue thread, “Dyed at Canterbury with the so-called Lawrence dye and used in all societies for marking kerchiefs with users initials”, #697; and a handkerchief (#683), “Shaker woven, used chiefly by the brothers to spread across their knees in meeting, so that in keeping time with their hands they would not soil their light colored trousers. This one later owned by Eldress Harriet Bullard who no doubt used it to protect her dress while knitting or sewing. Given by Mary Dahm”, initialed “HB 59”, cross stitched in blue marking thread, (Bissland collection).
