Lot 125: Elder’s Rocking Chair

$14,000.00

SOLD: $14,000 (without buyer’s premium)
Estimate: $4,000 – $7,000

Maple or cherry wood, original dark red painted finish, four graduated slats, each wood-pegged into back posts, tall finely shaped flame finials, rare original rush seat with remnants of original yellow paint, (shows wear at front and left side), early form shaped rockers slotted into posts and cinched with forged steel rivets, Harvard, MA, c. 1810-1820, 15″ seat h, 45″ overall h.

Note:  The patina, dry red paint, and original seat make this an exceptionally rare chair. More natural wear on the right arm shows that the Elder or Eldress was probably right-handed.
