Lot 35: Sewing Table/Case of Drawers


Cherry, butternut and pine, original red stained finish, single board top (33″ w, 23″ d) over three drawers, top two drawers are split (five drawers altogether), and they are molded, lipped and dovetailed, with cherry wood pulls, bottom drawer with brass diamond shaped escutcheon and iron lock, square to turned legs with medial swell, unique locking device locks all drawers at once with one key, with original key to lock bottom drawer, Hancock, MA, c. 1840, (see The Encyclopedia of Shaker Furniture, Rieman and Burks, p. 301, Fig. 433-433a), 28″ h, 24″ w, 16″ d (case).
