Edwin Howland Blashfield (American, 1848-1936), charcoal and chalk on toned paper, two female figures outlined with white halos, framed and matted, signed l.l. “Edwin H. Blashfield”, labeled on reverse “Vose Galleries of Boston…34419, Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848-1936)…”, 35″ x 25″; and an earlier label “First Municipal Art Exhibition, Rockefeller Center…Price $300…”. [Important: Blashfield was one of the most celebrated artists and muralists of his time and created the Walker Memorial Mural, one of the first installed permanent works of art on the MIT campus in the 1920’s. This charcoal is a study for the two figures found in the right panel of the mural in the North Hall, Walker Memorial, MIT].
