Both attributed to James Hosley Whitcomb (1806-1849, a deaf mute), collars and shirts are cut paper and watercolor, one is from the Jean Curtin collection, Cyr Auction, July 30, 2003, pencil signed on reverse “Joseph Dean, 1846″, stamped brass frame with oval aperture, 3 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ (sight); and the other was purchased at Skinner Auction, lot 98, February 2004, also in a stamped brass frame, 3 1/2″ x 2 3/4” (sight); (ex. Fertig collection).
