Important 19th c. hollow cut silhouette and watercolor folk art body, young gentleman holding a quill pen with other hand holding his coat, finely detailed with shading, overall toning, c. 1835, New England, original mahogany frame with line inlay at corners, and brass circular hanger, purchased at Merican & Peskin Gallery of American Folk Art in 2002, (see Rifkin, Silhouettes in America, p. 92-93), attributed to “Puffy Sleeve” artist, 4 5/8″ x 3 3/4″ (sight), (ex. Fertig collection).
