Cut black bead eyes, wax hands, with history of Princess Charlotte of Wales, in a dark oak painted case with glass front, lined with gold paper, dressed in period tall black hat and gold silk dress with leaf and floral motif, written on back “Eliza Kennedy’s Doll (died 1815)” and “This doll was put in Mourning for the Princess Charlotte. This was the first colored dress she had after her mourning was over.”, 8″ h, 12″ h (case), 6 1/2″ w, (ex. Milliken estate, Duxbury, MA). [Note: Princess Charlotte, daughter of King George IV, died in childbirth November 1817 at the age of 21. Her death was mourned tremendously in the British Isles as she was the hope of the people who did not care for King George IV or his father “Mad” King George III.]
