New England portraits of a sea captain and his wife, both seated, he is holding a brass compass measuring what appears to be a distance on a sea chart, she is holding a sewing bag and her glasses, she has blue eyes and a finely detailed white lace collar and bonnet, attributed to Cephas Giovanni Thompson, Middleboro, MA, c. 1850, originally purchased in New Bedford from The William Kranzler Antique Shop in the 1960’s, wood frames, from the Roche family of Norwell, MA, excellent condition under ultraviolet light, 30″ x 24 1/4″.
