Model 1840 NCO sword, with a brass hilt, pommel and guard stamped “14”, blade has worn stamps, “ELMSF” appears on one side in a worn half circle, (Chelmsford, MA is the probable location of the maker – C. Roby), the other side reads “U. _, 186_, F.S.S.”, (S. and 3 are with wear, and end of scabbard missing), c. 1863, 38″ l.
