Audubon, John James (1785-1851), chromolithograph with hand coloring by Julius Bien, New York, large folio, upper left displays “10-1”, upper right “Plate 288”, lower center displays title “Fish Hawk or Osprey, falco Haliaetus. Male, Weak Fish.”, lower left “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S., F.L.S.”, lower right “Chromolithy by J. Bien, New York 1860″, framed and glazed, minor toning and wear, with a small thickened line in the original paper through the tail of both objects, the line is not damage but is a normal occurrence in the making of this large sheet of early USA made paper, 39 1/4″ x 26” (sight). [Due to the onset of the Civil War, it is believed that only 70+ of the Bien sets were made and these sets did not contain all of Audubon’s bird images.]
