Oil on canvas, of the “Western Belle in a Storm”, signed and dated l.l. “C.S. Raleigh, 1889″ (Charles Sidney Raleigh), in the likely original gilt gesso frame, very minor spot of retouch, 26″ x 36”; with an original box from the ship, Captain Wm. H. Bessie’s carved valuables box, walnut, from the ship Western Belle of Wareham, Mass., c. 1873, finely carved with flowers, leaves, anchors, and dated “1896” on the back, small brass tack decoration around perimeter of lid, (note: Capt. Bessie lived in New Bedford), 5 1/4″ h, 12″ l, 6″ d, (ex. estate of Justin Cobb of “The Captain’s Quarters”, Amherst, MA).
