Rare late 18th/early 19th c. handkerchief map printed in red on cotton muslin, “Plan of the City of Washington in the Territory of Columbia…after the year MDCCC.”, showing Georgetown, the “Potomak River”, and Part of Virginia and Part of Maryland in the Territory of Columbia, and showing the named streets and layout of pathways, rivers and creeks, and the “Presidents House”, half-inch rope border with fruit decoration, the allegorical vignette corners are embellished with an Indian smoking a tobacco pipe, wheat, fruit and foliage, men loading a three-masted schooner, and a seated liberty and an 18th c. patriot blowing a triumphant horn and carrying flags, Printed in Boston after a design of Andrew Ellicott and Published by Samuel Hill, Boston, Mass., c. 1796, some staining, minor holes, and overall toning, 24 1/2″ x 25 1/2″, (ex.
